Born on the 13th of March 1899 in Suton, near Wymondham, Albert was the eldest child of Arthur Attoe, a farm labourer, and Amy (nee Betts). Bertie Barber was born Herbert John in Carleton Rode in 1892. His parents were William George, a yardman on a farm, and Alice Laura (nee Quantrill from Wymondham); they lived at ‘The Gates’ Rode Lane (near Kendal Lodge), the same location as the Leverett family (see Ambrose).
