Ernest Harry Chaney was the only child of Robert and Mary Chaney (nee Briggs) who were both from Carleton Rode families. They were married in 1892. Ernest was born the following year on the 15th May 1893 and after leaving school (around 1905/6) worked for his father; the family had moved to Poplar Farm on Rode Lane only a year or so before. …
